I Lost Ric...

My purpose for this blog is to put up some of the crazier times that I have had during my ski house days in Killington, VT. Every winter hundreds of crazed skiers run, leap, sprint out of work on Friday nights and into their cars and make the 3 hour trek to Vermont. The drive was never an easy one, the roads would throw all that they could at you to ruin your intended purpose...to get to Killington as fast as you could and start throwing back as many beers as you possibly can!

My ski house days started back in November of 2001. I had finally joined a house and was having a blast, the house itself was a small 3 bedroom condo that somehow slept around 10 to 20 people depending on how many showed up. My first tale is one that always tends to come up in regards to the night life at Killington.

I invited a buddy of mine up for the weekend to get some skiing in and of course mass amounts of drinking..he drove up on a Friday night and met me and one of my ski house buddies Mich at a bar up the road from the mountain. Mich and I had taken Friday off and come up to the mountain Thursday night and were already into a mix of Goombay Smashes*(definition below) and many beers. When my buddy Ric arrived we had a few more beers and laughs then headed back to our ski house to drop Ric's car off have a few more drinks and then hit the bar...one item to note is that at the time when Ric drove to the bar it was already dark out..this will be important later..

Later that night we all headed over to the Wobbly Barn, they had a great band that night that's up there a lot, this huge '70's band, with a horn section and all. We had a blast, from what I can remember, dancing, shots with the band, talking to random women, more shots...maybe one too many shots...at some point I recall, possibly stumbling...okay, falling down a flight of stairs, I hopped right up to dust myself off (thanks wobbly barn for the saw dust on the floor). Once I had gotten up a bouncer stopped me looked me over and "suggested" that I should probably head home...I wasn't getting kicked out mind you, he merely thought it would probably be a good idea for myself and other's safety. I asked if I could do a loop around the bar to find my friends, I couldn't find anyone and honestly didn't care, the only thing I can remember from there is stumbling outside hopping in a cab and falling on a couch and passing out once I got home....phew!

Fast forward 8 hours later I awoke on the couch in my clothes from that night, rubbing my eyes at the bright sunshine coming in through the window and then realized to my horror..."I left my buddy Ric at the bar last night!" I quick did a survey of all the bed's in the house...no ric...I knocked on the door of the condo next door to us to see if he may have crashed there...no ric...I walked outside to check his truck...no ric...but fortunately Ric's cell phone and pager were both in the car...where was my friend?

Mean while what had happened to Ric was possibly one of the most hilarious nights anyone could have had...to be cont'd.

Goombay Smash - a local favorite at K, every bar has their own version, basically it's a mix of rum and some sort of fruit mix, with a 151 shot on top of it...it cures what ails ya!
