One part of the excitement of the ski house is meeting your ski house members. For the next 6 months you'll be sharing a living space with these folks, drinking your face off and hopefully hitting the slopes with them as well.
Generally the first weekend at the house is always a fun time, seeing folks you haven't seen since the last winter and also meeting new friends. In my second year of my ski house at K everyone got to the house and we all headed out to the Wobbly for drinks and what not, the funny part wasn't hitting the bar...it was when we got home to discover a Ford Explorer that had slid off of the road and was on the side of a hill caught up in a bunch of trees..amazingly they hadn't hit any trees!
We all wondered whose truck it was and if they were members of the ski house? We found the owners of the truck already inside talking and "drinking" with other folks in our house? Mind you it was just after 2:30am and these two kids whose truck was out in the woods, were inside having a grand old time, not really concerned at all...some of us were on the other hand were concerned with getting some sleep to ski tomorrow and getting these bozos out of our house...one of the girls in the house, who was more indulged in beers than the rest of us thought they should "staaaaaaay...THEY'RE COOOL!!! THEEEEY CAAAAAN SLEEEEP HHeREEEEEE!"....we voted no.
They said that they had AAA so a phone call was made and a tow truck pulled up 30 minutes later, I went outside to meet him and after one look at the car the tow truck driver new what was up: "awww, gawd...not these clowns again!"...apparently he had met with them earlier in the day as they were complaining that their 4 wheel drive wasn't working and they wanted him to fix it..after he told them the cost they changed there minds and ended up in the trees along side our ski house...guess that 4wheel drive would have come in handy about now. He was fine with towing the truck out, there was actually a path for him to do it.
I went inside to get the clowns, who were now indulging in more beers, other substances and having a grand old time..telling them that the tow truck driver was here they took one look at him and announced "NO WAY MAAAAAAAN!! WE'rEEEE NOOOT DEEEALIN WITH THAT DDUUUuuuuuuDDDEE!! HE TRIIED TO RIP US OFF MAAAAAAAN!!"
Needless to say this wasn't what I wanted to hear, after reminding them that they guy was here through AAA and they didn't have to pay anything they finally saw through the beer haze and proceeded outside...with some coaxing and shoving from the rest of us.
The entire house came out to watch the spectacle about to ensue, the Explorer was sideways in the trees, the tow truck driver would first have to straighten it out, then tow through a good size ditch that was just before the driveway...this was going to be sweet!
I ran inside to grab a beer just in time for the show, one of the clowns had to get behind the wheel to steer the truck through the trees then hang on as he was pulled through the ditch...the truck slowly pulled through and as it came down hill it built up some good speed...till it hit the ditch..and BAM! The truck probably caught a good three feet of air or so off the front end as it went through the ditch...I think the kid in the driver's seat hit the ceiling of the truck as it came down...we all cheered and screamed and high fived each other, the tow truck driver and kid came out and took a bow....
It was 4am and the show was over...our condo neighbors were a bit peeved at us with all the ruckus and cheering we were making...we hadn't even had the chance to meet them yet...what a great first impression!!!
